August 10 Issue 8

August Training

ISS Cleaning Skill’s refresher training is ongoing at Manchester; conducted by the site based Team Leader’s with all static station staff based at both Victoria and Oxford Road stations; the refresher training will cover the 10 tasks previously taught on site and assessed by the training manager.

BICSc Approved Training:

The first mobile teams from the North East area have attended the two day training session of BICSc COPC – “Cleaning Operators Proficiency Certificate” Training at our approved centre at Bolton station;

Training manager Tony Wroe said “this is the first of many sessions planned for both the North East, Cumbria & Yorkshire mobile cleaning teams to attend training and gain a BICSc level 1 certificate at both our established Bolton and the new Strensall training facilities.


BLACKPOOL NORTH STATION:

Training in the ISS Cleaning Skills is also ongoing at Blackpool North Station conducted by Team Leader Mark Joyce. Unfortunately they have encountered some unexpected delays due to work commitments on other stations however supervisor Ken Wood informed me recently they have managed to get 6 staff through the training that have successfully completed the course.

“Training This Month"



A good month for training with a number of both internal and external courses being delivered across all area’s; the first aid training in Yorkshire has been arranged to address the immediate need’s of the vegetation teams due to the risks from injury when using chainsaws, chippers, I would like to look into the possibility of offering additional First Aid training in the N/E & M&L areas in the future.

New Training Facility – Strensall:

Work is still ongoing once it’s been completed it will give use a brand new facility to deliver BICSc accredited cleaning training to the N/E and Yorkshire mobile teams.

Yorkshire:
Four employees from the Yorkshire vegetation team have completed an advance chipper course run by ISS Wateres. Supervisor D George and R Shaw have completed the Pa1 Pa2 knapsack weed spraying course.

First Rescue based in York have compiled a bespoke one day course in Emergency First Aid Training – for 10 staff who conduct vegetation work either on a full time or part time basis.

L & C/T & W:
Along with two of North East staff who have been booked on the Pa1 Pa2 knapsack weed spraying course.

Two new starters North East have completed the ISS Core Competence training – as new starters at Sunderland station.

M&L:
Two supervisors have places on the ISS ILM Course to commence at the end of July.

One Area Manager – Completed a one day PDP courses at Futura Park, Horwich on Making the Right Decision.

Everybody should have been informed about the new Blog Site which was set up to give you the opportunity to access information without the need for a company computer. You can access the site through your own home computer anytime, you can or not register as a follower of the site - the choice is yours, either way you can keep up to date with training related information. The site will hold monthly blogs also published as a hard copy "Training Brief" about all training issues. It will also give you a chance to leave feedback, request training information or simply ask questions. So if you are reading this "Excellent" you are on the site now to become an active participant register as a follower and leave your feedback.


BICSc Update: 09 June 2010 -


We have successful gained BICSc approval as a new centre, we are now approved to deliver 30 cleaning tasks. In the very near future we will commence training in the ten tasks required for your stage one certificate with all static and mobile staff and give you the opportunity to complete assessment's - successful candidates will receive a Stage 1 BICSc Certificate.

The June-Dec 2010 PDP-People Development Programme Training brochure is now available with all UK training courses, dates and locations. What's available? these courses are delivered by our UK Training Team at a number of convenient locations throughout the UK, 27 courses covering topics such as - Leadership Skills, COSHH, Building Teams, Discipline, H&S part 1 & 2, and Employee Relations; to name a few for a copy ask your line manager or leave feedback with your name and location and I will post one out to you.

Team Leader David Kilbride:

Based at Manchester Victoria Station; David as settled into his new role as Team Leader extremely well and participated in a number of PDP courses to help him become familiar with ISS Policy, he is seen here receiving his certificate from Training Manager Tony Wroe after successfully completing the ISS Foundation Certificate in Health & Safety – and is the first Team Leader to gain this qualification.

Tony said “David is a prime example of what ISS can do to support our employees and David has shown he was eager to get on, so when a position became available I had no hesitation in supporting him when he was successful in gaining the role of Team Leader, he wants to learn and get on and I will always encourage that from anybody, David as identified a number of courses that will help him in his current role and any future career development”.
